Smithgate Social Brings Creativity to Wolverhampton This August

Wolverhampton city centre hoarding to become giant community artwork at upcoming Smithgate social.
This summer, we’re bringing something exciting to Wolverhampton city centre. Smithgate Social, our brand-new event, takes place on Friday 14 August from 11am to 6pm in Market Square – and we can’t wait to welcome you.
The day will be a celebration of creativity, culture and community. Local artists and young people will join forces to turn part of the Smithgate hoarding into a striking piece of large-scale public art. It’s an amazing opportunity to showcase Wolverhampton’s talent and for local people to leave their mark on one of the city’s most significant regeneration projects.
The free event is being delivered by This Solid Ground on our behalf, alongside City of Wolverhampton Council, as part of our placemaking programme for Smithgate. We’re proud to be working with an incredible team that includes Caddick Construction, Howells, Cadence and Core 5.
Expect live art from the brilliant team behind High Vis Festival, with vibrant murals taking shape throughout the day. Young people from The Way Youth Zone will also get hands-on in workshops, helping to create parts of the final design and shaping the look and feel of this future neighbourhood.
There’s plenty more to enjoy: live music and DJ sets curated by High Vis and The Way, street food from local vendors, craft activities for children, and relaxed seating areas for families.
Why are we doing this? Smithgate Social is about more than art. It’s about bringing communities together, giving people a voice in shaping the future of Smithgate, and creating moments that reflect the energy and spirit of Wolverhampton.
